Description
Beechgrove and War Memorial is a rectangular church built between 1835 and 1836, with additions and alterations made by James Duncan and Son of Turriff in 1899. The church closed in 1972 and was secularised around 1975. It features harled walls with tooled granite ashlar dressings and margins. The entrance is located in the east gable, which is covered by a gabled porch added around 1975. At the rear, a vestry was added to the west gable in 1899. The former vestry has a door on the south elevation, flanked by a window and featuring an end chimney stack. The south elevation is lit by four long, round-arched windows with keystones. These windows have multi-pane, margined glazing, as does a single square-headed former gallery window in each gable. At the apex of the east gable, there is a birdcage ashlar bellcote, although the bell is no longer present, and a ball finial is located at the west gable. The roof is covered with slate.
The interior has been converted into a dwelling house, re-using some balusters from the 1899 alterations.
The war memorial is a small granite structure commemorating those who served in World War I from 1914 to 1919, with an additional inscription honoring those killed in World War II from 1939 to 1945.
