Description
Mains of Baldavie is an early to mid 18th century, two-storey and attic house with a wide three-bay layout. The exterior features modern harl with contrasting painted reveals and dressings. The central entrance is framed by a moulded and lugged doorpiece. The windows are regularly spaced, with one on the ground and first floor in the west gable, and two modern two-light swept dormers with 12-pane glazing. The house has end stacks topped with deep roll-moulded copes and a slate roof with a pottery ridge.
At the southeast angle, there is a later single-storey and loft addition, also harled, which includes a forestair leading to the loft on the south gable.
Inside, the central rectangular stairwell features a wide staircase with a simple wooden balustrade and polished handrail. The former first-floor parlour to the west has a moulded ceiling cornice, a raised and fielded panelled door, window shutters, and a chimneypiece from around 1900. Other areas of the house also contain raised and fielded panelled window shutters and doors, including paired doors that close a mural cupboard in the ground floor passage. The current ground floor sitting room features a chimneypiece from around 1900.
