Operations Block, Banff (Boyndie) Airfield

The Operations Block at Banff (Boyndie) Airfield is a disused single-storey building constructed in 1942 by Wimpey Construction. This low, horizontal structure features a stepped flat roof and is notable for its rare interior details from the Second World War. The exterior is made of brick and some dry-dash, with 6-inch reinforced concrete roofs.

On the south elevation, there is a blank facade of the briefing rooms, with a taller blank elevation of the operations room set back at the center. The east elevation, which serves as the entrance, has a doorway at the center of a low blast wall leading to the briefing room on the left. To the right, there are slightly taller HVAC rooms with altered openings.

The north elevation shows altered openings to the HVAC room on the left, a prominent vertically-emphasized stack with a ventilator behind at the center, and the operations room to the right.

Inside, the operations room retains remnants of hand-painted wartime data, including details of fallen aircraft and crews, along with raised viewing cubicles that also feature hand-painted data on the walls.
