Description

The Control Tower at Fearn Airfield, built around 1940 and opened in 1941, is a three-storey structure featuring a rooftop air watch office, often referred to as a 'glasshouse'. This disused Second World War control tower follows a standard design used by Royal Naval Air Stations. It has a square plan, a flat roof, and a ventilation tower located at the rear. The building is constructed from brick and reinforced concrete and includes a wind sock post.

The west elevation, or front, has three main storeys divided by balconies on the first and second floors, which return and terminate at the north and south elevations. The ground floor has six window openings, while the second and third floors each feature a central window opening flanked by door openings, with additional window openings on the outer left and right sides.

The north elevation has a projecting single-storey entrance block at the ground level, with a pair of window openings to the right. The first and second floors each have pairs of window openings flanking the centre.

The south elevation mirrors the north with a projecting single-storey entrance block at the ground, small window openings above, and three irregularly arranged window openings on the first and second floors.

The east elevation features a pair of vent openings at the ground, flanked by pairs of irregularly arranged window openings. The first floor has four irregularly arranged window openings, while the second floor has three irregularly arranged window openings.

The interior was not seen during the last inspection in 2000.
