Description
The former control tower at the Dumfries and Galloway Aviation Museum, located in Heathall Industrial Estate, was built in 1941. This three-storey, three-bay structure has a flat roof and a square plan, typical of Second World War control towers, and is currently used as a museum. The building features smooth cement rendered brick and has multi-pane metal casement and top-hopper windows. A cantilevered balcony extends along the northwest elevation, wrapping around the outer corners, with an external metal stair leading to the roof on the northeast elevation. The northwest elevation has regular window placement, while the remaining elevations reflect the interior layout. The interior retains its original room plan, with the main control station located on the third storey, which provides access to the exterior balcony and the roof.
