Description
Scotsmill is a former mill building dating from the late 18th to early 19th century, possibly incorporating earlier materials. It has a roughly L-shaped plan and is two stories high, with a kiln located at the southern arm, which is now used as a pottery. The building is constructed of rubble with tooled rubble dressings. The entrance to the first floor is located in the eastern gable and is accessed by a stone forestair. The western gable features a dummy wheel, and there is a ridge louvre above the kiln. The roof is covered with slate.
Adjacent to the mill is a former steading, which is a single-storey, long, low structure with three bays. It is also made of rubble with tooled rubble dressings and has three doorways in the long eastern elevation, along with an additional entrance in the northern gable. The steading has a pantiled roof with large loft lights and is currently used as a dwelling house.
