Description
The Smithy at Knowes Of Elrick dates from the early to mid-19th century and is a single-storey building with six bays. It is constructed from roughly squared rubble and features wooden lintels.
On the east elevation, there are two doorways: a broad door in the center and a stable door to the outer right. The windows maintain a vertical, overlapped, lying-pane glazing pattern. There is a small window on the north gable and a lean-to addition at the rear.
The building has a slatted vertical glazing pattern and a corrugated asbestos roof. The skews are coped with ashlar, and there is a brick stack on the south side.
Inside, two forges have been retained.
