Description
The Cartshed and Granary at Westhall Farm dates from the earlier to mid-19th century. It is a rectangular-plan structure with seven bays, attached to a partly demolished steading from different periods. The building is constructed of snecked rubble sandstone with picked ashlar dressings and features a corrugated asbestos roof, along with some timber doors.
On the west elevation, there are seven segmental-arched cart-arches, with two on the left and one on the right, each fitted with boarded doors. Above these arches, there are seven boarded windows and a six-pane window at the far left, along with three ridge ventilators.
The south gable includes a six-pane top-hopper window at the ground floor and a boarded hayloft door above. The east elevation is mostly obscured by a later lean-to cattle court, but it features a large implement entrance at the far right, which breaks through the wallhead and has corrugated metal doors and a slate piended roof.
Inside, the structure has a central joist supported by rough-hewn timber columns. The granary section contains corrugated metal partitions and a plain collar- and tie-beam roof.
