Description

The Old Parish Church and Churchyard in Duthil dates back to 1826, built on an earlier site. It is a simple rectangular church oriented east to west, likely recast in 1893 by James Gilbert, with further alterations made by MacGregor Chalmers in 1912. The church is constructed of harled rubble with tooled grey granite margins and dressings.

On the north and south elevations, there are four large square-headed windows, each featuring a moulded timber transom and mullion, along with leaded glazing. The entrance is located in the center of the west gable, which has a gallery window above it. Similar openings in the east gable are now blocked. At the apex of the west gable, there is a bellcote with a cusped and shaped head topped with an urn finial, and the church has a slate roof.

Inside, the church has been gutted, but there is a panelled gallery front at the west end. The burial ground is enclosed by a rectangular rubble wall, which is either rendered or harled with a shaped cope. The entrance features a pair of grey tooled granite ashlar gate piers with shallow pyramidal caps, leading to a pair of simple spearhead carriage gates. The site also contains interesting 18th and 19th-century tombstones. A mural memorial dated 1806 is set into the north wall of the church.
