Burial Ground, Abernethy Parish Church, Nethybridge

The Burial Ground at Abernethy Parish Church in Nethybridge dates from the late 18th century and has undergone substantial alterations and additions, with the architect being A M Mackenzie. The church is a rectangular structure featuring a rear aisle added in 1874, which has a catslide roof. The southern elevation is made of squared tooled rubble, while the rear is finished with harl pointed rubble and harled gables, accented by tooled granite dressings.

The symmetrical six-bay long southern elevation is illuminated by round-headed windows, with the windows in bays two and five being narrower and originally serving as entrances. There are small round-headed gable gallery windows and square-headed windows in the rear aisle. The front windows have 2- and 3-light glazing from 1874, featuring coloured geometric patterns. A shallow crowstepped porch, also from 1874, is located at the center of the west gable, which includes a circular apex bellcote that is corbelled out beneath a small bellcast conical roof.

The church is a single-storey building with a two-bay Minister's room projecting at the rear, and all gables feature crowsteps from 1874, topped with a slate roof. Inside, the church has a simple layout with later 19th-century seating arranged in the original manner, centered on an earlier 20th-century pulpit located on the southern wall. The pointed-headed aisle arcade is supported by painted cast-iron columns, and there are various 19th-century mural plaques displayed.

The burial ground is enclosed by rubble walls and features a pair of square tooled granite gate piers with flat caps, along with a pair of simple cast-iron gates. It contains a fine collection of 19th-century local slate tombstones.
