Junior Ranks' Club, Gordon Barracks, Bridge Of Don, Aberdeen

The Junior Ranks' Club at Gordon Barracks in Bridge of Don, Aberdeen, was designed by J and W Wittet around 1935. This two-storey, nine-bay mess building features a symmetrical design with baronial detailing. It is constructed from pinned squared granite rubble with finely tooled ashlar dressings and long and short quoins in a lighter colour, along with a rock-faced plinth. The building has multi-pane sash and case windows and a slate roof.

The central three bays are taller and set forward, with the middle bay featuring a bold canted window at the ground level and a crenellated parapet above. A grand tripartite display of Royal coated arms sits above, complete with pediment detail to the centre light. The corners of the building are accentuated with corbelled angle bartizans. The outer wings are lower and include porches that are set into the re-entrant angles. All gables are crowstepped. At the rear, there are two wings, one built around 1960, which infills a court area.
