52A Market Street And 2 Guild Street

52A Market Street and 2 Guild Street is a late 19th-century, four-storey and attic corner tenement building featuring a three-by-three bay layout. It has a distinctive polygonal timber attic belvedere at the corner and retains near intact openings for the public house on the ground floor. The building is constructed of grey granite ashlar and includes a base course, cill courses, string courses, and an eaves cornice. Ionic pilasters separate decorative key-stoned segmental-arched openings on the ground floor, some of which have cast-iron railings.

There are large central pedimented wallhead dormers on the south and east sides, with coped stacks above. A deep granite canopy extends over the ground floor opening at the corner. The south elevation (Guild Street) features some canted bay windows, with those on the second storey adorned with decorative parapets. The windows are predominantly plate glass timber sash and case, with some replacements on the upper storeys and plate glass on the ground floor. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there is a tall, ridged wallhead stack on the west side.
