47 Market Street, Aberdeen

47 Market Street in Aberdeen is a two-storey and basement classical commercial building, originally built as a Post Office in 1875 by Robert Matheson. It features a prominent corner location and has a façade made of grey granite ashlar. The building has a deep cornice at each storey, a cill course, and a deep corniced blocking course. The corners are rounded, with bowed glazing on the southwest and northwest sides, both adorned with bracketed corbelled cornices; the northwest corner includes a timber and glass entrance door.

Giant pilasters frame the corner entrance doors and loggia. The main entrance is located on the west side, facing Market Street. It has a slightly advanced central three bays with steps leading up to a loggia entrance styled like a triumphal arch. This entrance features a central round-arched opening flanked by rectangular openings, which are equipped with substantial decorative cast iron gates displaying the Scottish Royal Coat of Arms.

The building predominantly features plate glass timber sash and case windows and is topped with grey slates and coped ridge stacks. The interior was comprehensively modernised in 2006.
