Description

Dated 1891. 2-storey, asymmetrical, Baronial corner tenement with shopped ground floor. Stugged squared and snecked sandstone with red sandstone margins and dressings. Crowstepped gables. String course.

E (MAIN) STREET ELEVATION: 4-bay with 6th corner turret bay to outer right. 2-bay gable to outer left marginally advanced, crowstepped gable with stack to right carried on shallow bracket. Windows symmetrically disposed, ashlar transoms, hoodmould stepped over CP monogram and 1881 datestone at centre. 2 windows to right, that to right with ashlar transom and mullion. 2-stage corner turret, bowed window with attic storey, round-headed windows, cornice, candlesnuffer roof. Shopped ground floor, original shopfront and fascia, windows blocked, 9-panelled door in penultimate bay to left, modern door in 3rd bay from right.

KING STREET: shopped ground floor, windows blocked. Broad gable to outer left, chimney flue at centre, window to right. 2 windows at centre. Narrow gable to outer right, bipartite window, ashlar mullions and transoms; stepped hoodmould.

INTERIOR: not seen 1995.

4-pane and plate glass sash and case windows. Grey slate roof. Corniced apex stacks.
