22-27 Argyle Place, Edinburgh

22-27 Argyle Place is a four-storey, six-bay Baronial tenement with shops on the ground floor, forming part of a terrace. The building is constructed of squared and snecked sandstone, featuring polished ashlar dressings. It has a cornice above the shops and a corbel table at the third floor, which steps down to the second floor at the fourth and fifth bays, with chamfered reveals.

The entrance elevation shows that the shopfronts have been predominantly altered at the ground floor, incorporating cast-iron columns with foliate capitals. There are full-height canted windows on the outer left and right, which are four-light and corbelled to a square at the crowstepped gableheads. Square blank tablets are inset in the gableheads. The bay to the inner left features advanced tripartite windows, with the third-floor window breaking the eaves in a pedimented dormer topped with a stone finial and an inset circular patera. An engaged semi-circular turret bay is located to the left of centre, showcasing bipartite windows, a conical roof, and a cast-iron finial. The remaining bays contain single windows, with those on the third floor also breaking the eaves in stone finialled pedimented dormerheads.

The windows are a mix of four-pane and plate glass sash and case types. The roof is covered with grey slate and features a corniced and rendered wallhead stack, corniced mutual stacks, moulded cans, and cast-iron brattishing between the first and second bays, along with beak skewputts.

The interiors were not seen in 1990.
