Description

This three-storey, two-bay end-of-terrace house stands on the corner of Great George’s Street South and Osborne Promenade, at the left end of a terrace in Warrenpoint, County Down. Constructed seemingly in the early 1860s, it replaced an earlier building. The house was originally built alongside number 12 Osborne Promenade, which is a separately listed building (HB16/12/026C).

The house has a pitched roof covered in artificial slate, with a rendered chimney on the right side. Modern plastic rainwater goods run along the roofline. The walls are lined, rendered, and painted. The front elevation, facing southwest, features two uPVC casement windows on each floor; all windows are of this type. The height diminishes to the second floor. The left gable faces Great George’s Street South and is abutted at ground floor level by a flat-roofed porch with a modern door incorporating a transom window and a window on its side. The remainder of the gable has a window on the ground floor right and two windows on each upper floor. To the left of this elevation is the external cheek of a two-and-a-half storey rear return, with a pitched artificial slate roof and a modern gabled dormer. This wall is also lined and rendered. The rear return has two windows on the ground floor and one window on the first floor. The right gable abuts number 12 Osborne Promenade. The rear elevation has not been inspected. The front and side walls are rendered.

The interior of the house has been modernised, and the original sash windows have been replaced with uPVC casements. The house was originally recorded in the second Valuation Book of 1861 (VAL 2B/3/65B, p.53) and further details are found in the Valuation revision book (PRONI: VAL 12B/22/23A, p.126).
