Description

This is a two-and-a-half-story, two-bay house located at the southwest end of a terrace on the northwest side of Great George’s Street in Warrenpoint, County Down. It is one of a pair of mirror-image houses. The building dates from between 1900 and 1919.

The house has an artificial slate roof with a rebuilt rendered chimney positioned slightly left of centre along the ridge. An advanced eaves course supports half-round plastic gutters. Two dormers are present on the front pitch; a canted dormer over the left bay and a modern dormer over the right bay, which is paired with the adjoining house. The left dormer has a canted artificial slate roof, a central top-hung casement window, fixed sidelights, and artificial slate cheeks. The right dormer has a flat roof and a modern top-hung casement window facing the street, an artificially slatted left cheek, and shares a dormer on its right cheek with the adjacent house. The principal elevation faces southeast towards the street. The walls are cement-dashed and painted, and below the eaves level, a shared moulded stucco plaque reading “1908” is visible. The left bay features a two-story canted bay with a concealed flat roof and concrete coping. Each face of this bay on each floor has a single modern top-hung casement window with a painted concrete cill. A lean-to porch, shared with the adjoining house, occupies the ground floor on the right-hand bay. This porch has an artificial slate roof supported by small carved timber brackets at each end, and a modern stained timber door with six raised and fielded panels and a plain transom. A single window above the door, to the first floor, matches those on the left bay. A small front garden is enclosed by a painted and rendered dwarf wall. The left gable is rendered, unpainted, and blank, while the right gable is completely abutted by the adjoining house. The rear elevation has not been inspected.

The building first appears in the 1910 Valuation Revision book entry and was occupied from 1912.
