Description

This is a three-storey house located at the right-hand end of a row of early to mid-19th century houses in Warrenpoint, County Down. The building is considerably deeper than it is wide, with its main elevation facing southeast onto a side alley rather than the main street. The roof is hipped with modern gutters. The walls are finished with painted lined cement render and have a chamfered basecourse.

The building’s right-hand end projects slightly under a cat-slide roof extension. All windows are modern, top-hung uPVC units; those on the first floor are taller than the others. The left bay has two windows at ground floor and one window on each upper floor. The right bay has a front door at ground floor and a single window on the first floor only. A small window is located on the left-hand cheek of the projecting right bay at ground floor. The left gable, which faces the street (southeast), aligns with the front elevations of the rest of the terrace and is one bay wide, featuring one opening on each floor. The windows are detailed in a style matching the front elevation.

A wrought iron balcony in a Grecian Revival style is positioned on the first floor of the left bay, supported by three scrolled iron brackets, and includes plastic French windows leading onto the balcony. The rear (northwest) elevation abuts the adjacent property (HB16/11/013L) and is blank, except for a truncated leaded wall head chimneystack. The right (northeast) gable has been significantly altered and includes a metal fire stair that rises to upper floors.

The building does not appear on the town map of 1834, but is shown on the 1861 map and was recorded in the 1863 Valuation as measuring 6 yards by 15.5 yards and being three storeys high. A 1969 photograph shows a front door on the street gable at ground floor. Due to extensive alterations, the building now retains few original architectural or historical features, apart from the metal balcony.
