Description

This is an attractive two-story, three-bay house situated within a significantly altered terrace on Osborne Promenade, facing the sea. Constructed between 1820 and 1839, it is shown on the 1834 Ordnance Survey map alongside the other properties in the terrace and was recorded in the 1835 First Valuation as measuring 24ft 6in x 27ft 6in x 22ft.

The house has a pitched natural slate roof with shared, unpainted rendered chimneys at either end of the ridge. Two small, reproduction dormers with pitched natural slate roofs, plain bargeboards, painted timber cheeks, and side-hung casement windows are set into the front roof slope. Half-round plastic rainwater goods are fitted. The front elevation, which faces southwest, is lined and painted with stepped stucco quoins to the right end. All front openings are framed by run-moulded stucco architraves, and the windows have painted granite sills. The central bay features a pair of three-panelled storm doors with fielded panels and brass knobs, surmounted by a semicircular fanlight with original peacock-tail glazing. Single, exposed box 1/1 sliding sash windows are located on either side of the central bay, with three matching windows on the first floor, one in each bay. The left gable abuts the adjoining building at 9 Osborne Promenade (listed separately), while the right gable abuts the building at 7 Osborne Promenade (also listed separately). A mono-pitched single-story return is located to the right side of the northeast facade and features a modern door and window. A modern glazed door with 12 panes is centrally positioned on the ground floor, flanked by modern replacement top-hung window frames.

The area in front of the house is enclosed by a small, chamfered dwarf wall supporting modern, slender railings with spearhead finials and a matching front gate. The rear elevation was not inspected.

The building holds architectural and group value, as well as local historical interest. It is currently used as a private house.
