Description

Rose Cottage, located on Upper Damolly Road in Newry, was likely constructed between 1800 and 1819. It was originally a small vernacular house, noted on an Ordnance Survey map of 1834, but not included in the 1836 Valuation records. A survey in 1970 described the house as a one-and-a-half-story building with rendered walls and a slated roof. It featured three double-hung windows on the ground floor, each with sash windows divided into two panes by a single vertical glazing bar. A projecting porch with decorated bargeboards and a finial fronted the entrance, which itself had a narrow, rectangular fanlight above a panelled door. The building was originally recorded as having been extended. The cottage has since been totally refurbished or rebuilt, and no original features remain. It has been demolished, and is not currently listed.
