Description
This is a simple lever-type water pump located in front of 60 Dunmore Road, Ballynahinch, County Down. It is likely to date from between 1900 and 1919, possibly installed around 1920, although an owner confirmed that it was in place before 1922.
The pump is a closed-head lever design with a plain column and cap. One side displays the flag logo of Lee, Howl & Co of Tipton, England, and the number '3 1/2'. The pump is believed to be a 'Paragon York suction pump' based on the catalogue of Lee, Howl & Co, and it is mounted on a board next to the house’s front door. It is complete, except for a perished bucket seal.
The pump’s original setting has been altered due to the refurbishment or replacement of the adjacent house. A well was marked at this location on the 1919 Ordnance Survey map. The pump is of industrial archaeological interest.
