Description
The building is a cow-tailed pump, located to the side of Park Lane in Gilford, County Down, originally serving a nearby house. Dating from approximately the 1930s, it is a closed-head lever-type pump with a plain, undecorated column and a fluted cap topped with an acorn finial. The column carries a flag logo identifying the manufacturer as Lee, Howl and Co, of Tipton, along with the inscription "Made in England" and the measurement "3 1/2''". This is a 'Paragon deep-well lift pump' model. The handle has been removed by the owner for safekeeping. The pump is situated on the opposite side of the lane from the house and is accessed via concrete steps. Originally installed around the 1930s, it was moved following the installation of an electric pump.
