Description
This is a cow tail pump, likely constructed between 1920 and 1939. It is a good example of this type, retaining its inscription. The pump features a closed head lever, a plain spirally decorated column, a fluted cap, and an acorn finial. It is inscribed "T A Shillington and Son, Portadown" around the head. According to a local informant, it was installed by Mr Joe Harvey in 1921. The pump is of industrial archaeological interest. The adjacent farmhouse it originally served has been demolished, and it is now largely removed from its original context. The pump is located at the front of the site, in the townland of Mullabrack. Further details are provided in the Environment and Heritage Service report ‘Water Pumps in Northern Ireland: A Preliminary Survey’ by Fred Hammond (January 1997), referenced as Pump no 27. The house's demolition occurred between 1995 and 2006, following the construction of a replacement dwelling.
