Description

This is a good example of a cow tail water pump, dating from between 1900 and 1919. The pump stands in a garden beside Park Lane, Gilford, County Down, and holds group value with the other water pumps in the area. It is an open head lever type with a plain column and fluted cap. The column is inscribed with a flag logo, identifying the manufacturer as Lee Howl & Co., Tipton, England, and the inscription "2 1/2". It is likely a 'Paragon strong yard pump'. The pump is mounted on a concrete base, but is currently missing a link from the handle where it connects to the column. It is of industrial archaeological interest and was recorded as derelict.
