Site of former 54 Drumaness Road, Magheradrool, Ballynahinch, Co Down, BT24 8LT

The site, located on the east side of Drumaness Road, approximately 2 miles southeast of Ballynahinch, was formerly occupied by a single-story vernacular dwelling, likely dating to the 1860s. This building was demolished around the 1980s, and a larger house has since been constructed on the site.

The original dwelling, as recorded in a 1978 survey, was a single-story building with raised roof verges. It was constructed of rubble stone walls with a limewashed finish, and possessed a chimney. The front featured a drop-hung sash window with vertical astragals on the left-hand side, and a sheeted door on the right. An extension was present to the right of the door, featuring a flat roof and a further drop-hung sash window consistent with the original window style, also limewashed.

A building is depicted on Ordnance Survey maps dating to around 1901, but is absent from earlier maps of 1858, suggesting it was built shortly thereafter. The building was demolished around 1983. Documentary evidence of the building’s existence and ownership is held within the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland (PRONI), specifically within the D.1255 Title deeds and correspondence relating to the Ballynahinch Estate, and the OS/6/3/29/3 Ordnance Survey map of Down sheet 29 dating to approximately 1901.
