Bridge, Downpatrick Road, Cumber / Drumnaconagher, Ballynahinch, Co Down

A rubble-built double arch road bridge, likely constructed between 1840 and 1859, carries the Cumber Road over the Ballynahinch River. The bridge is situated approximately 2.5 miles east of Ballynahinch, in the townland of Raleagh. The structure is built of random fieldstone rubble, featuring two segmental arches with a cutwater between them and buttresses close to the banks on each side. The lower portions of the bridge have been reinforced with concrete, and the road surface is covered in Tarmac. The plan and proportion demonstrate architectural merit, along with its style and structural system. The structure is of local historical interest and has industrial archaeological value. An earlier bridge is depicted on an Ordnance Survey map from 1834, suggesting the current bridge may represent a substantial alteration of the original.
