Description

The site, located on the south side of Drumnaconagher Road, approximately 2.5 miles east of Ballynahinch, initially contained a small, single-storey house likely built before 1834. This house was demolished and replaced with a larger, modern dwelling. The original survey from March 1974 described the demolished cottage as having a slated roof and gable ends. Chimneys were rendered, and the walls were rendered and whitewashed, featuring an eaves course. The northeast-facing front had two drop-hung windows with horizontal astragals, and a central, projecting porch with an extended roof overhang. A sheeted door led to the entrance, now marked by rendered stone curved walls on either side of the porch. A recent shed addition sits at the southwest end. A single-storey outbuilding, with a slated roof, gable ends, and similar walls, is positioned forward on the road frontage at the southwest end. The condition of the original building was described as poor, with a frontage of approximately 38 feet.

An Ordnance Survey map from 1834 depicts a building on this site, though it was not recorded in contemporary valuation records. It is probable that this structure represents the cottage that stood on the site until recently. Valuation records circa 1863 identified the house as the home of Edward Marner, with a rateable value of £1-5-0. The house was demolished around 1990, and the modern house now occupies the site. Primary sources include an Ordnance Survey map of Down sh 30 from 1834 (PRONI OS/6/3/30/1), a second map from 1858 (PRONI OS/6/3/30/2), and the second valuation for Kilmore, circa 1863 (PRONI).
