Lime Kiln, Beside 343 Glassdrumman Rd., Annalong, Newry, Co Down, BT34 4NQ

This lime kiln, located beside 343 Glassdrumman Road, Annalong, Newry, Co Down, dates to between 1820 and 1839. Constructed entirely of random Silurian and granite rubble masonry, it represents a remnant of rural industry. A lime kiln is depicted on the 1834 Ordnance Survey six-inch map. The kiln has a draw hole, fronted by a horizontal granite lintel. The opening to the draw hole narrows in height and width through a series of skew set corbels. Due to heavy undergrowth, the interior of the kiln’s pot could not be inspected. The structure is recorded as derelict, and holds industrial archaeological interest. While of some local interest, it is considered to have insufficient architectural or technical merit for statutory listing.
