Description

This is an end-of-terrace house, built between 1880 and 1899 as part of a terrace of six similar three-storey, two-bay houses facing the sea on the north-west side of the street. Although altered, the building’s height and scale remain characteristic of the seafront properties. The pitched roof is covered in natural slate, with rendered chimneys at each end. A moulded eaves course overhangs, supporting metal gutters on an eaves board. The front wall is rendered and painted, with continuous moulded cill courses to the upper floors. The left bay is narrower and contains the main entrance within a semicircular opening. The entrance features a two-panelled door with glazed sidelights (including aprons), flanked by consoles supporting a timber entablature above the door, finished with a plain fanlight. Above the door is a 2/2 sash window on each of the upper floors, with the second-floor window slightly diminished in height. The right bay features a full-height canted bay window with a matching canted natural slate roof that ties into the main roof and shares a common eaves line. Each face of the bay window has a uPVC window; the side windows have a 1/1 configuration, while the front window is wider, with a 2/2 configuration. The second-floor windows in the bay are also slightly diminished in height. A rendered wall and hedge define the front garden, with a modern front gate. The left gable fronts Slieve Foy Place and has a modern top-hung 1/1 window located between the ground and first floors. The right gable is a party wall shared with number 14 Seaview. The rear elevation was not inspected. The house appears in the Valuation revision book of 1880 alongside number 14, and was the last pair in the terrace to be built, with the first pair (numbers 17 and 18) erected in 1877.
