Description

This is a late 19th-century terrace house, part of a row of six similar buildings facing the sea on the north-west side of the street. While its height and scale are in keeping with the surrounding seafront architecture, later alterations and modernization mean the property is not considered to have special architectural or historic interest.

The house is the second from the right end of the terrace. It has a pitched natural slate roof with a rendered chimney on the right end. The overhanging eaves feature a moulded course and modern plastic gutters. The front wall is rendered and painted, with continuous moulded cill courses to the upper floors. The left bay is narrower than the right and contains the main entrance in a semi-elliptical headed opening. A modern six-panelled door is flanked by sidelights and aprons, all beneath a plain fanlight. Above the entrance is a modern, top-hung timber window on each upper floor, with the second-floor window slightly reduced in height. The right bay has a full-height canted bay window, topped with a canted natural slate roof integrated with the main roof and sharing a common eaves line. Each face of the canted bay contains a modern, top-hung timber window, with the side cheeks narrower than the front and the second-floor windows slightly reduced in height. A rendered dwarf wall with modern steel railings encloses the front garden. The left gable is a party wall with number 16 Seaview, and the right gable is a party wall with number 18 Seaview. The rear elevation was not inspected.

The house first appears in the Valuation revision book entry of 1877, along with number 18. These were the first pair of houses constructed in this terrace of six, with numbers 15 and 16 built in 1878, and the final pair (numbers 13 and 14) in 1880. The property was delisted on 14 January 1998.
