Description

This is a single-storey, three-bay vernacular dwelling located off a lane on Drumintee Road, Killevy, Newry, County Armagh. An outbuilding adjoins the left gable. The building is aligned northeast-southwest and sits prominently on the eastern slope of Slieve Gullion, accessed by a long lane with rubble stone boundary walls.

The roof is pitched and varies in height. From the left, the roof materials are corrugated metal, natural slate with a whitewashed chimney remnant, and natural slate (half-side lapped) with a cement-rendered and coped chimney to the right gable. The façade is cement-rendered and whitewashed with a contrasting painted base course. The remaining walls are whitewashed random rubble. All windows are set in painted reveals with painted concrete sills. The principal elevation faces southeast. The left bay has a central fixed pane window. The central bay is slightly taller and includes a 2x3 metal-framed casement window to the left and a windbreak porch to the right. The porch has a pitched natural slate roof with plain timber bargeboards, a t+g sheeted door on its front face, and blank cheeks on either side. The right bay is lower and features a 2x3 metal-framed casement window centrally. The left gable is completely abutted by an outbuilding. The rear elevation has a small, fixed-pane window without a sill, set to the right of the centre bay. The right gable is blank.

While a building is indicated at this location on an Ordnance Survey map from 1835, it's uncertain if it's the current structure. Evidence suggests the existing building is more likely to date from the mid-19th century, appearing on the 1862 Ordnance Survey map. Its rateable valuation remained at 10 shillings from 1862 onwards. The building’s construction is estimated to be between 1840 and 1859. It is currently used as a house and is privately owned.
