Description
This is a single-storey vernacular house situated south of 16 Dernaroy Road, Killevy, Newry, Co Armagh. Built between 1820 and 1839, it is aligned roughly east-west on the western side of Dernaroy Road, alongside a similarly detailed neighbour (HB16/15/038), forming an attractive grouping.
The house is a three-bay dwelling with a single-storey outbuilding attached to the left gable. It has a pitched natural slate roof with a brick chimney to the left gable and one on the party wall between the central and right bays. There are no rainwater goods. The walls are whitewashed lime-rendered rubble stone. The principal, south-facing elevation features a slightly raised left bay with a central 2x3 metal-framed window retaining its original granite cill, set at a lower level. The central bay has a tongue-and-groove (t+g) sheeted door on the left, and a similar window with a concrete cill on the right. The right bay was formerly a byre and has a central 2/2 sliding sash window, now boarded over, with a narrow concrete cill. The left gable abuts a lower, single-storey outbuilding. The visible section of the outbuilding is cement-rendered and blank, with a pitched corrugated metal roof and a concrete skew to the exposed gable. Its principal elevation has a tongue-and-groove sheeted half-door on the left and a fixed metal lattice-framed window on the right. A slightly lower lean-to is attached to the outbuilding's left gable, but is not of architectural interest. The rear elevation has a rubble stone base course and is blank, while the right gable has a tongue-and-groove sheeted door.
A building is marked on the 1835 Ordnance Survey map.
