House, Annashanco, Rosslea, Co.Fermanagh, BT92 7PT

The house at Annashanco is a symmetrical, three-bay, one-and-a-half storey building aligned east-west on the west side of Annashanco Townland. It dates to around 1898, although a house existed on the site from about 1860. The house’s appearance significantly changed in 1898, as indicated by a substantial increase in its valuation. The roof is pitched and covered in natural slate, featuring fleur-de-lys ridge crestings and tiled skews, with a cast-iron skylight to the rear pitch and half-round metal rainwater goods. The walls are lime-rendered over rubble stone, with stone cills to the windows. The principal elevation faces south. A prominent feature is the unusually large openings in the facade, including a large, slightly segmental-headed opening at the centre, flanked by similarly large window openings. The left gable has a window opening, with the remains of an 8/8 sliding sash window to the apex. The rear elevation has window openings in the left and right bays; the left bay contains the remains of a 6/6 sliding sash. The central bay has a timber-sheeted door with a three-part transom above, and a window to the right, containing the remains of an 8/8 sliding sash. The right gable features a 3/6 sliding sash window to the apex. The house occupies an elevated site surrounded by mature trees and overlooks Spring Grove Forest; vehicular access is prohibited due to its location within the Forestry Division boundary. The house is currently in private ownership and recorded as derelict.
