Cottages, 34-40 Main Street, Ballykelly, Limavady, Co Londonderry, BT48 9HS

A group of three cottages stand on Main Street, Ballykelly, constructed between 1820 and 1839. The cottages are likely remnants of a development built by the Fishmongers Company around 1828, potentially linked to a terrace of houses identified as HB02/10/004. Historical records from 1970 describe earlier cottages with harled and whitened walls, slate roofs, and doorways within square surrounds, flanked by double-hung windows. These doorways were complemented by doors topped with decorative fanlights. Number 34 retains some features of this earlier appearance, including a central door with a cantilevered, flat hood supported by scroll mouldings and casement windows to either side, although it has been altered with three modern dormers and a brown artificial slate roof, and an extension to the rear. Number 36 features a heavy mansard roof over a brown tiled shop front, while Number 40 has been significantly altered, now comprising two storeys with a flat roof and a pebbledash finish. The cottages, in their current condition, are considered to detract from the architectural character of Ballykelly Village.
