Description

This small, gabled, rubble built forge is situated on the north side of Quarry Road adjacent to the junction with Castle Espie Road, and dates from at least the early of the 19th century. The north front face has one large opening (without doors) to the left hand side and one window opening to the right. The window opening has a modern timber frame without astragals. The west gable abuts another slightly taller gabled outhouse. The south face has window opening with frame as before to the left hand side. The east gable, which is covered with rampant greenery, appears to be blank. The roof covering and timbers have been replaced. The roof finish is now corrugated perspex and corrugated iron sheets arranged in alternate strips. The loss of the original roof unfortunately debases much of the architectural value.
