Description

Large two and half storey late Victorian residence of c.1890s with a slightly over elaborate front facade somewhat out of place in this semi-rural setting of the small village of Lisbarnet. The house is set on the W side of the Killinchy Road, c.3 miles NW of Killinchy. This house is now a residential home and use has been made of some former outbuildings to the rear. Front E facade is symmetrical with two large canted bays. In the centre is the doorway with timber panelled door with upper panels glazed. Above the door is a large segmental arch fanlight with recent looking ‘leaded’ lights. The doorway is encased with square pilasters with moulding curving from pilaster capitals and culminating in a keystone with ball pinnacle encased within a tympanum. Directly above the entrance is a PVC window set within a segmental arch opening with label moulding over. On either side of the entrance is a large full height canted bay with hipped roof with ball pinnacle. To each floor of the bay is a window with frames as before with linked label moulding over, cill courses and first floor course. The facade is finished in roughcast with chamfered plinth, chamfered quoins and dentilled eaves. The S facade has two ground floor windows as front with another to the left on the first floor. At attic level is a central semicircular arched sash window with label moulding. The N gable is similar but without window to left on ground floor. Attached to the very right edge of the N gable is a single storey lean to section with panelled door and with segmental arch fanlight and label moulding, to the right of the doorway is a window as before. To the far right of the lean to is a high rendered wall with coping which encloses a rear yard with former outbuildings which have been converted to offices/accommodation. To the S the lean to is attached to the N side of a two storey gabled return with small semicircular arched PVC window to the first floor on the N facade. To the first floor on the S side is a similar semicircular arched window and flat arched window with a similar window to the ground floor along with a very large (modern) window. To the rear gable of the return are two first floor PVC windows whilst attached to the ground floor is a single storey section with a mono-pitched roof. To the rear of the main building are two first floor windows (either side of the return) with another window to the right on the ground floor. All windows have segmental arch head openings and PVC frames. All first floor windows are set on cill courses as are the attic windows. The rear, gables and return (as well as the converted outbuildings to rear) are all finished in rough cast with chamfered quoins to main house. Dentilled eaves course to rear (as front). The main house has a Bangor blue slated gabled roof with two large rendered chimney stacks with corbelling. Cast iron skylight to rear and to return roof. Decorative wrought iron gates and pillars to front.
