Description
The Vicarage is a large detached house located in Kempsford Village. It dates from the late 17th century, with significant additions made in the 19th century. The original part of the building is constructed from rubble stone with quoins, while the later additions are made from coursed and dressed stone, also featuring quoins. The roof is made of stone slate and has stone stacks with moulded cornices.
The house was originally designed in an L-plan layout but has been extended to create a more squarish shape, primarily consisting of two storeys and an attic. The 17th-century section on the south side, which is depicted in Kip's engraving of Kempsford Manor from 1700, has three windows with three-light, ovolo moulded stone mullions. The leftmost window on the ground floor has a string course above it, while the other windows are obscured by a large 19th-century lean-to porch that features coloured glass. There is also a cross-gabled projecting wing to the right, which is likely slightly later than the original structure. The 19th-century additions are mainly located to the south and west of the original building. Additionally, there is a small gabled dormer on the south side of the 17th-century range, which contains a two-light wood casement window.
