Description
Kempsford Manor, now divided into two separate residences, comprises an early to mid-18th century main block and a later service wing dating to 1868. The main part of the house is constructed from coursed rubble stone with quoins, and has a stone slate roof with a hipped form and projecting stone eaves cornice. It is further distinguished by tall stone stacks. A double-hipped range of two storeys with an attic is positioned with its main front facing east, and incorporates additional service wings to the west.
The east front features five windows; four are 12-pane sash windows with quoins, while the central window is a leaded wood mullion and transom in a matching surround. The ground floor has a central half-glazed door with margin lights and two lower flush panels, topped by a decorative radial fanlight. Remnants of leadwork from a former gabled porch are visible. Flanking the door are two large, floor-to-ceiling canted bays with 5/15/5-pane sashes. Four small hipped dormers are present, one at the south end. A north-facing entrance features an early 20th-century stone porch and double half-glazed doors, likely dating to the 19th century.
The West Wing, located in the former service wing, displays three widely spaced 12-pane sashes on the first floor and five replaced twin casements on the ground floor, with a nearly central 20th-century gabled stone porch. The rear of the entire range exhibits cambered stone arched windows on the ground floor and mostly 12-pane plain sashes on the first floor, alongside a small, single-storey projecting wing.
