House On East Side Of Road About 30 Metres North East Of Carey'S Mill

This house, possibly originally a pair, is located on the east side of the road, about 30 meters north-west of Carey's Mill Bridge. It dates from the mid-19th century and is constructed from roughly cut and squared Ham stone, topped with a Welsh slate roof that features stepped coped gables and brick chimney stacks. The building is two storeys high and consists of three bays, with an additional one-bay extension.

The house has sash windows with 12 panes, set in segmental arched openings that have voussoirs and keystones. Notably, the window in the lower bay 2 has only 9 panes and is positioned lower in what was previously a doorway. The extension on the west gable is designed as a lean-to and includes a boarded door, along with a matching 9-pane sash window at the first-floor level in the west wall. The interior has not been seen. This house is almost certainly linked to the Parrett Iron Works, which was established on the site of an earlier mill around 1855.
