Description
Nos. 1 and 2 Parrett Works Cottages are an end pair in a row of six cottages, built in the mid-19th century. They are constructed from cut and squared ham stone and feature a triple angle clay tiled roof with coped gables and brick chimney stacks. The cottages are two storeys high and consist of three bays in total.
The windows are horizontal-bar casements, with two lights above and three lights below in the outer bays, all set in voussoired segmental arched openings. The upper bay has a single-light window, while below it, there is a boarded door with a glazed panel, accessed by two steps, which serves as the entrance to No. 2. The entrance to No. 1 is located in the south-east gable end and is flanked by 2-light windows at both levels, with a single-light window above the door. These are all in flat-arched surrounds with relieving arches, and there is a circular recess in the gable. At the rear, there is a monopitch extension. The interiors have not been seen. These cottages are associated with the Parrett Iron Works, which was founded on the site of an earlier mill around 1855.
