Description

No 1, Grove Alley is a 19th-century cottage located about 1.5 metres northwest of Patwell House in Bruton. The cottage features a facade made of Doulting stone ashlar, with a local stone plinth and return walls. It has a hipped Welsh slate roof and a central brick chimney stack. The building is two storeys high and consists of two bays. Architectural details include a plinth, a band course, and corner flat pilasters with Doric caps. The windows are 12-pane sash windows set in slight segmentally arched recesses, with the lower windows having margins. The entrance is located at the rear, accessible from Grove Alley. The positioning of the cottage suggests it predates Patwell House, which it is connected to by a short wing wall.
