Description

This is a pair of cottages, located at the end of a row, with an additional later building attached. The cottages date to the 18th century. They are built of local stone, which has been rendered and colourwashed. The roof is a plain gabled Welsh slate, with plain clay tiles over a stone slate base to the rear extension, and brick chimney stacks.

The cottages are two storeys high, with three bays. Upper floor windows have 16-pane casements. On the ground floor, the first bay has a shop window with 8 panes under a slim, moulded top fascia, a glazed door, and a fanlight to the right. The second bay has a pair of 19th-century part-glazed doors which provide access to a through passage. The passage has pointed arched and margined lights. Between bays two and three is a 19th-century four-panel door with a plain fanlight. The fourth bay has a lower composite plain sash window with three lights.

Inside the passage, the east side has a half-timbered partition with brick infill, while the west side has a stone wall with an 18th-century doorframe. To the rear of the cottages, attached as No 13A, are former stables and a workshop. Deeds suggest the property dates back to 1730; No 11 was formerly a shop for a dairy.
