Description
The Patwell Pump House is a pumphouse located on the northeast corner of Church Bridge, likely built in the 18th century and repaired in 1984. It is constructed from Doulting stone ashlar and measures approximately 1.8 metres square in plan. The structure features a chamfered plinth, which is mostly buried, and plain sides topped with a moulded eaves course. It has a stepped pyramidal roof with a ball finial. The east face includes a boarded door set in a triangular headed opening. Inside, there is a wheel valve and pump machinery. On the south side, there is a curved wing wall made of random stonework. This pumphouse is situated on the site of St Patrick's well, one of several wells that were once found in the town.
