Description

Fly Boat Farmhouse is a farmhouse whose evolution is unclear without an internal inspection, but it is possibly from the 17th century and was enlarged in the 18th century. The right side features roughcast, while the left is made of color-washed squared and coursed stone, with slobbered rubble on the left return. The thatched roof on the right has a ridge that sweeps up over two bays, and there is a brick stack at the right gable end. The left side has a higher, independently roofed half-hipped roof covered with double Roman tiles and 18th-century brick stacks at the right gable end, along with a 20th-century stack rising from the eaves between the second and third bays on the left. The plan is not entirely clear but is possibly a three-cell and cross passage farmhouse that has been partly rebuilt and enlarged, with a loft over a store at the left end. The building is two and one-and-a-half storeys tall and has a three-by-three bay layout. The left block features three-light casements on the first floor, a 20th-century window on the ground floor, two and three-light casements, and an entrance in the corner with a 20th-century porch and a fielded panelled door. The right block is set back slightly, with a break in the wall creating an end bay with a raised eaves line. It has a three-light casement below the eaves, a two-light window set in the roof space, and a raised eaves section with a three-light window. The ground floor has three windows, including two two-light casements and a lean-to addition on the right.
