Description
The Lodge is a 19th-century lodge, dated 1863 and built by C. Oaten, originally associated with Corfe House (which is now separate). It is constructed of chert stone random rubble with brick dressings, decorated clay tiles, and has overhanging eaves. The roof is tiled, with sprockets, bargeboards to the gable ends facing the street, decorative ridge tiles, and brick stacks set in from the gable ends. The building is in an L-shape, with the main entrance in the re-entrant angle.
The lodge is one and a half storeys high with a 1:1 bay arrangement. It features 2-light casement windows with cast iron glazing bars. A gabled dormer rises from the eaves on the left-hand side, with a window to the right. The ground floor has a window to the right and a 2-light bay window to the left with a hipped decorative clay tiled roof and dentil cornice. A 20th-century door sits beneath a cantilevered hipped porch, supported by shaped brackets with a dentil cornice.
A plaque on the left gable end is inscribed with "HB and SC June 24 1863 C Oaten Builder".
