Description
Barberry Farmhouse is a farmhouse, now a house, with origins in the 17th century, significantly altered in the mid-19th century and later. It is constructed of rubble, rendered and has a pantiled roof with ridge and gable stacks, incorporating some slates and double Roman tiles. Originally three bays wide on the right side, with a ridge stack likely marking its original gable end, the building has since been extended to the left and to the rear. The front elevation has two storeys and four windows, all plate-glass sash windows with margin glazing and external shutters. The ground floor features two canted bays with roofs of shaped slates, valances, and similar sash windows. A glazed porch with a hipped slate roof and a half-glazed door sits between these bays. A section of the rendering is missing from the right bay. The right return has a single-storey, double Roman tiled attached building, possibly a former bakehouse, with an oven and a brick stack to the rear, and a door set high under the eaves. The left return has a sash window with a wider central pane on the first floor. The rear elevation features a roof extension over a two-storey addition. The first floor has three two-light casements, while the ground floor has three similar casements, with a half-glazed door second from the left and double doors with strap hinges to the right. An interior inspection was not possible.
