Description
Macquarie Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 18th century and with early 19th-century alterations, likely remodelling an earlier building, and incorporating 19th-century rear wings with later additions. The farmhouse is constructed of rubble, with a pebbledashed finish, and has a pantiled roof featuring large gable stacks and a bellcote. The roof is finished with double Roman and triple roll tiles. The layout is an L-shape, formed by two parallel rear wings, with further additions to the left return creating an inner courtyard.
The front elevation has two storeys and three windows. The first floor has sash windows set under the eaves. On the ground floor, there is a central panelled and glazed door with a segmental hood on brackets, a round-headed single light window to the left and right, and a 20-pane sash window to the outer sides. A lean-to extends to the right. The left return has a small attic light to the left of the main range. One rear wing forms the inner courtyard and has a lean-to along the ground floor with two 20th-century windows and a three-light casement on the first floor. A single-storey addition is present to the right, with a door, and another to the left, attached to the rear of the wing, featuring a 20th-century window in a former door opening and a small single light, both with segmental brick heads. A lean-to with a door and a large stepped stack is set in the angle between the main range and the rear wing.
The rear elevation has two parallel rear wings, both two storeys high. The wing to the left has a single light and a door, with reused strap hinges, and a two-light casement with a segmental head on the first floor. The wing to the right features a six-pane two-light casement window on the ground floor, a 20-pane sash on the first floor, and a three-light casement set within the gable end. A single-storey addition to the right has a double Roman and triple roll tiled roof, a two-light casement, a large plate-glass window, a round-headed opening, and a ventilation slit. The right return and interior were not accessible at the time of listing.
