Description

Somerset House is a house located on the south side of High Street in Yatton, dating from the early 19th century, with a rear wing added in the mid-19th century. The building is constructed of rubble, with the front block rendered and brick dressings on the rear wing. It features a slate roof with decorative crestings and brick gable stacks.

The house is two storeys high and has three windows, all of which are 16-pane sashes set in exposed boxes. The central entrance includes a panelled and glazed door with a fanlight that has radial glazing bars, all set within a round-headed opening. The porch is adorned with decorative cast iron panels at the front, wood trellis on the sides, and a segmental hood supported by radial struts at the front.

On the right side of the house, there is a single light window at ground floor level on the left, and a small two-light casement window with glazing bars in the attic. The left side features an attached greenhouse and a plate-glass sash window with a segmental head at first floor level on the left, along with a 20th-century two-light casement window in the attic.

At the rear, there is a 20th-century plate-glass window at ground floor level on the left, above which is a sash window with a wider central pane. The two-storey rear wing is built of random rubble and has an asbestos slate roof that is hipped at one end. This wing includes three doors, with the right and left doors having brick segmental heads, and a single 20th-century light. The first floor features sashes with wider central panes, each with a brick surround and segmental head, including one on the right and two on the left side. The interior has not been inspected.
