Description

Little Wadham is a farmhouse, likely dating from the 17th century, with alterations probably made in the 18th century at the left end. It is constructed of painted rendered stone rubble and cob, with a thatched roof having gable ends. A brick shaft rises from a stone rubble stack at the left gable end, and a large rendered stone rubble stack with a projecting bread oven is situated at the right end. The original plan features a heated room at each end, both with direct front entrances, and an unheated room in the middle. A staircase rises along the rear wall in the corner of the right-hand room. The 17th-century plan has undergone alterations in both the 18th and 20th centuries, and it is possible that the farmhouse was once divided into two separate dwellings. The exterior is two storeys high, with a five-window front. The window arrangement is irregular, with mostly intact 19th-century windows including a three-light casement with three panes per light, two two-light casements with two panes per light, a four-paned sash window, and a two-light casement with four panes per light. The ground floor includes a two-light casement with three panes per light to the left of a porch with a corrugated iron roof, a small three-paned single-light window, a two-light casement with three panes per light to the left of a 20th-century door and hipped thatched roof porch, and a two-light casement with six panes per light to the right. A lean-to is attached to the left end, and a single-storey outshut extends from the rear right end under slate roofs. The interior was not inspected.
