Description
Moorview, The Post Office, and Rose Cottage is a row of three adjoining cottages, likely built in the late 17th century or early 18th century. The rightmost cottage, Rose Cottage, has been completely remodeled in the 20th century. The buildings are constructed of painted rendered stone rubble and cob, topped with a half-hipped thatch roof. There is a brick stack at the left end and three axial brick stacks.
The layout consists of three adjoining cottages. Moorview, on the left, has two rooms with an entrance next to the stack, which heats the larger left-hand room, while a staircase leads to the rear of the smaller right-hand room. There is a single-storey outbuilding at the left end, which may have originally been a smithy and later used as a slaughterhouse, before being converted into part of the dwelling in the 20th century. The Post Office, in the center, also has two rooms and has undergone significant alterations in the 20th century. Rose Cottage, on the right, consists of two rooms and has been entirely remodeled and partly rebuilt in the 20th century.
The exterior features two storeys. Moorview has a three-window range with 19th-century fenestration, including two-light casements with four panes per light above two two-light casements with six panes per light, located to the right of a 20th-century door. The single-storey outbuilding at the left end has a small four-pane window to the left and a 20th-century window to the right of a plank door. The Post Office has a two-window range with 20th-century fenestration, featuring two-lights over three-light casements. Rose Cottage has entirely 20th-century fenestration, with two- and three-light casements, and the upper-storey windows have slight eyebrow dormers.
Inside Moorview, the larger left-hand room has a chamfered unstopped cross ceiling beam and a rough timber lintel above the fireplace. The right-hand room has been divided axially in the 20th century, concealing the original fireplace.
